Michael Heindorff paints with his eyes closed, literally. He is searching for a different form of truth, beyond the seduction of visible form and meaning.

Not unlike the experienced cyclist who balances without holding on, Michael Heindorff grounds this vertiginous process in intense, rigorous drawing sessions. He draws urban interiors and cities, as exemplified by his London Spitalfields 1 or Glasgow IV, both immensely cluttered and of baffling complexity.

The exploration of his personal landscapes/cityscaptes probably only became possible after the careful, absorbed mapping of man's urban environment. His figurative cityscapes are firmly black and white, and seem to be the backbone for the uncontrolled explosions of colour that subsequently emerge from the painter's inner world. The small but strident red and green composition contrasts with the more subdued, tasteful, sensuous and even 'pure' world of Effloresce I.
